Car Detailing: What You Need to Get Started

Exterior Car Detailing Steps

If you are going to detail the exterior of your car, follow the steps listed below:

• Wash the Exterior: Use water and a solution designed specifically for cleaning the exterior of your vehicle. You do not want to use cleaning solutions like household detergents. These products can strip off the wax on your car’s surface. Also, make sure to frequently swap out any microfiber cleaning cloths you use. As they become contaminated with dirt and debris, those contaminants could actually damage your vehicle’s surface. Once your vehicle has been thoroughly cleaned, use clean towels to dry it. 
• Clean the Wheels: To clean the tires, you can use the same solution you used on the exterior paint or opt for a product that has been specifically crafted to clean tires. A small brush can help to remove dirt from hard-to-reach places. 
• Wax the Exterior: While this step is not necessary, a coat of wax can help to protect your vehicle’s exterior and keep it shining like new. Once finished, use a small brush to remove any excess wax. 

Interior Car Detailing Steps

• Carpeting: Vacuum the carpet first. If you need to get rid of any stains after vacuuming, use a stain remover and brush to remove them.

• Steering Wheel Column: Remove dust and stains with a cleaning solution, dry, and apply a surface protectant. 
• Dashboard and Center Console: Your small brushes can help to clean cracks and tight crevices. Use a cloth to dry the surfaces.
