How to Track Your Custom BMW Order
If you are one of the dozens of people a year who order a custom BMW from us, then you are probably wondering what the production process is from order creation and vehicle production status to vehicle delivery at the destination port on the West Coast (after processing through customs) and then your garage. We want to help make the process as simple and seamless as possible, so you can clean out your garage in anticipation of the big day. Below you will see a gallery of images as well as a laid-out process that will show you how to login to the BMW website, how to track the order process, shipping schedules, plus a status update and the timeline of your order.
We went through this custom process as well (first with a BMW Genius, and then with a Sales Manager). As a dealership, it’s important to put yourself through the paces that you want your clients to go through, so you can rest assured that they’re getting the right BMW experience from start to finish. Setting aside port schedules, marine traffic, and delays at port, here is what can you expect when you custom order and receive delivery of a BMW from BMW of Escondido.
- We selected a car from our inventory of new BMWs for sale in the Escondido, CA-area.
- For the video, it was a new BMW M240i xDrive Compact Performance Coupe with a custom paint color.
- For the images in this post, the BMW Genius chose a new BMW M5 (we have since received delivery).
- We customized every aspect of the design process, including the paint.

The tracking feature is not very accurate and there is no way to know how long each step is, or even what some of them mean. Also there is a lag between actual and displayed status. Calling the BMW Genius line often give a different status. Mine has been sitting at “in transit” for well over a week and still the dealer has no idea when it will arrive.
Hey David, the tracking does give a general idea for planning pickup etc, and it’s fun to see! If you talk to your client advisor they can usually provide even more detailed info like what ship the car is on and you can get even more detailed. Likely the hardest thing to wait for is a new BMW!
I just ordered a 2022 240i x drive. I hope it doesn’t take 5 months to get here. : (
Hey Julie! I don’t see that you ordered with us, so I can’t get specifics to you. However, the 240xi are getting built at a normal pace with 6-8 week lead time on average. Excited for you!
Hello, I ordered a 430i convertible about 2 weeks ago and I have the production number, but it won’t let me track it on the website. Yet, when I called they told me the deets. Help.
Hey Seham, if you ordered with our dealership we can assist with getting that fixed. If you did not, you would need to reach out to the dealership you ordered from so they can assist. Congrats on the order!
Hi there, i already placed the order with dealer in toronto. But already 4weeks past, i didnt receive the vin number, just want to see is there any updates?thanks
Hi Max, you will need to check with your dealer directly, as we do not have access to any client information other than those that order from us. Sorry about that! Also unsure if this information is the same in beautiful Canada 🙂
Hi injust ordered a x6 from florida last week any idea the how long can take please thank you
Hi Ricardo, X6 models usually take 4-6 weeks from start of production, which is when the vehicle is actually on the assembly line. It could take longer if there is a wait time before production. You will need to check with your dealer directly, as we do not have access to any client information other than those that order from us. Hope this helps!
Hi
I have ordered X5 in UK in October and they said it has to come from US. Do you know how long it will take to receive our X5? Thanks
Great question! When we get cars from the UK it takes about 8-10 weeks. I’d assume that going the other direction would be about the same, but I’d check with your dealers there since I’m not sure on those details.
This does not work at all. I ordered my 530i on 1-26-2022 and it entered the Production Queue on 1-24-2022. The status never changed until 2-1-2022. It said it went into the Paint booth on that day. It is still sitting in the paint booth. I have called and they said it was scheduled to finish production yesterday. But it is still showing it is in the paint booth. I don’t know for sure what to believe.
Hey Dan, it’s working but might take 24 hours to update on your side to be exact with the factory. This tool is for casually checking progress within 24-48 hours of the vehicle’s progress, but if you’re looking for more granular data you’d have to call BMW USA or your client advisor every day for an update. Hopefully they can speed up the communication between production and the tracking site at some point!
